People love a good scary story to get their blood coursing through their veins. Even better when it’s approved by a horror master like filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro. With the cinematic adaptation of the novel series SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK, he’s produced a bone-chilling modern campfire tale.

Director AndrĂ© Ă˜vredal (THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE) helms the feature. And it appears that this one is going to prey on the audience’s deepest, darkest nightmares. Take a look at the new teaser trailer

There’s an undeniably Amblin-esque quality to this new teaser, what with the sense of kids discovering a lurking presence and unearthing a mystery. The time period the film is set in- America in the 1960’s- also is tied to the thematic resonance.

The younger cast does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to carrying the picture. Stars Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush and Natalie Ganzhorn are gifted the most amount of frights, which seems like a no-brainer as coming-of-age in a time of societal upheaval (as our country was in the 60’s) seems like a frightening experience. The unknown is always scarier.

This is guaranteed to appeal to audiences of all ages seeking something entertaining and terrifying – and it’ll probably do boffo box office numbers to boot given it’s being released in a window where many are looking to beat the heat.

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK in theaters everywhere AUGUST 9.
