J.J. Abrams loves mystery. His company, Bad Robot, is infamous for keeping secrets better than the U.S. government. While there’s been chatter before about a sequel to 2008’s CLOVERFIELD, not much sprang from it. However, a sneaking little film popped up on actors John Goodman, Mary-Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr.’s resumes – VALENCIA. Now, it’s been renamed to it’s proper given release name: 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (whose live action PORTAL is something that should be seen immediately), the film tells the story of three people in a fallout shelter.
The trailer was sneakily tagged onto 13 HOURS: THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI and people online done lost their minds. It’s easy to see why when you watch it below.
Via Collider, Abrams said of the film,
“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
So it’s not exactly a sequel, but more like a cousin. No matter what, we’re on board and can’t wait to put it in our eyeballs immediately.
10 CLOVERFIELD LANE opens on March 11.
