Brotherhood is the focus of the new ‘DESPICABLE ME 3’ trailer

It’s #NationalBrothersDay today (shout out to my two very own!) and with that comes a new trailer for DESPICABLE ME 3, or DESPICABLE M3. Unlike the teaser, which relied heavily on 80’s references, and previous trailer, which was just perfection, this latest trailer shows much more footage – including an allusion to the breakout line from the first film – and seems to hit on some VERY resonant emotional issues like the sibling rivalry inherent in brotherhood.

Having not exactly been Illumination’s biggest fan, I think DESPICABLE M3 might be changing a lot of the issues I have with how they tell stories (specifically that they are noisy and hand-wave emotional chords). We’ll see how this all shakes out come it’s release at the end of June. Listen, whether I like it or not, it will make a bahjillion dollars. But so far, Gru, Dru and their crew are legitimately worming their way into my heart.

DESPICABLE ME 3 opens on June 30.
