‘DRIVE’ and ‘ONLY GOD FORGIVES’ Director Nicolas Winding Refn To Bring His New Book to Fantastic Fest

While he’s certainly had his hands full lately with his upcoming film THE NEON DEMON, filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn (DRIVE, ONLY GOD FORGIVES) is heading to Austin, TX, later this month for a special exhibit and signing celebration of his new book, NICOLAS WINDING REFN: THE ACT OF SEEING.

Coauthored by London’s FrightFest curator and acclaimed horror expert Alan Jones, THE ACT OF SEEING shares Refn’s unique collection of over 300 rare American film posters, which are all bound in a rich hardcover book. Stemming from an obsession with the art house film posters that decorated the exterior walls of local movie theatres, the book shows Refn’s earliest visual connection with film, including the vintage visuals of SPIKED HEELS AND BLACK NYLONS, OBSCENE HOUSE and ALICE IN ACIDLAND to THE TWISTED SEX, TORTURE ME KISS ME and ZERO IN AND SCREAM.

Fantastic Fest will be hosting the exhibit, showcasing 15 of the original posters that are featured in Refn’s book, along with a brand new limited edition poster by artist Jay Shaw.

“Being a massive fan of Austin, TX, I consider it a great privilege to join forces with Fantastic Fest and the Mondo Gallery to host the exclusive U.S. debut of NICOLAS WINDING REFN: THE ACT OF SEEING,” said Refn. “I’m excited to show the world this odyssey of rare and exclusive poster art at the festival alongside screenings of some of the films that inspired it.”

All information regarding the only U.S. book tour stop for Refn can be found on the flyer above. The exhibit is free and open to the public (no film badge required). It will run September 25-27th.
