‘KONG: SKULL ISLAND’ #SDCC trailer teases an epic, Kong-sized adventure

I can’t help it. Whenever I hear the title KONG: SKULL ISLAND, I always think of Will Ferrell’s SNL skit where he tells someone to go back to her home on “whore island.” While I know these islands are different (and I’m guessing can be found somewhere in the South Pacific?), it’s what I associate – not the KING KONG franchise. The film debuted its highly anticipated footage at San Diego Comic Con today almost at the same time as it sneaked onto the web.

Set in the 1970’s, a group – including Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson – goes into the jungle on what’s to be a routine and simple operation. However, there would be no film if things went smoothly. Sure enough things go monstrously wrong. Take a look at the trailer.

There’s a lot of blue/ yellow color theory at play in that trailer alone. I’m sold!

The film also stars Jason Mitchell and John Goodman. Director Joran Vogt-Roberts told the SDCC audience “that he wanted to set the film in the 1970s because it was a time where myth could exist and the world still felt like it held some unknown places.” Mitchell added that shooting on location helped fuel the actors’ performances.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND opens on March 10, 2017.
