‘KUNG FURY’ is the Best Thing On the Internet Right Now

Preston Barta // Features Editor

One of the most trending topics on the net right now is KUNG FURY, a Kickstarter funded kung fu B-movie. Perhaps you’ve seen the trailer, or better yet, David Hasselhoff’s music video for the film titled “True Survivor.” Both videos blew up on YouTube, receiving views in the millions. But now the main course has arrived, and it’s glorious.

For any gamer and B-movie/80s movie fan, KUNG FURY should be calcium for your funny bone. It’s packed with action (where you wonder how they hell they pulled it off), laughs (including deadly one-liners such as “tank you”), and impressive effects. Did I mention it has Hitler (played by none other than The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone), dinosaurs, vikings, a giant Thor, and an arcade game that transforms into a killing machine? Need I say anymore?

Sure, to some this may sound ridiculous, but if you’re willing to fully give yourself over, KUNG FURY is a hell of a time.

I have been working as a film journalist since 2010, dividing the first four years between radio broadcasting and entertainment writing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2014, I entered Fresh Fiction (FreshFiction.tv) as the features editor. The following year, I stepped into the film critic position at the Denton Record-Chronicle, a daily North Texas print publication. My time is dedicated to writing theatrical film reviews, at-home entertainment columns, and conducting interviews with on-screen talent and filmmakers, as well as hosting a podcast devoted to genre filmmaking (called My Bloody Podcast). I've been married for ten happy years, and I have one son who is all about dinosaurs just like his dad.
