Movie Trailer: M. Night Shyamalan Seemingly Continues His Suck-Streak With ‘THE VISIT’

Preston Barta // Features Editor

Universal Pictures has revealed the trailer for writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan’s THE VISIT (previously titled GRANDMA’S HOUSE). The studio says Shyamalan “returns to his roots” here, but if you watch the trailer below you can probably agree this looks pretty damn silly. The man shows no signs of returning to his genius days of creating THE SIXTH SENSE and UNBREAKABLE.

THE VISIT follows the “story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a week-long trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day.”

Shyamalan produces THE VISIT through his Blinding Edge Pictures, while Blum produces through his Blumhouse Productions alongside Marc Bienstock (QUARANTINE 2: TERMINAL). Steven Schneider (INSIDIOUS) and Ashwin Rajan (DEVIL) executive produce the thriller.

Genre: Thriller
Cast: Kathryn Hahn, Deanna Dunagan, Peter McRobbie, Ed Oxenbould, Olivia DeJonge
Written and Directed by: M. Night Shyamalan
Produced by: M. Night Shyamalan, Jason Blum, Marc Bienstock
Executive Producers: Steven Schneider, Ashwin Rajan

I have been working as a film journalist since 2010, dividing the first four years between radio broadcasting and entertainment writing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2014, I entered Fresh Fiction (FreshFiction.tv) as the features editor. The following year, I stepped into the film critic position at the Denton Record-Chronicle, a daily North Texas print publication. My time is dedicated to writing theatrical film reviews, at-home entertainment columns, and conducting interviews with on-screen talent and filmmakers, as well as hosting a podcast devoted to genre filmmaking (called My Bloody Podcast). I've been married for ten happy years, and I have one son who is all about dinosaurs just like his dad.
