It’s no surprise that there is another PARANORMAL ACTIVITY on the horizon this Halloween. Blumhouse, the production company behind the franchise since 2009, claims that PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION is the last chapter. In my opinion, when horror franchises start implementing the colon rather than the sequential number it’s time to pack up the ectoplasm and leave.
Reaction to the trailer isn’t surprising– it’s going to be shown in 3D, and from what it looks like, the horror is going to be mostly made up of the jump-scare variety. All hope is not lost because we saw earlier this year that very same production company released INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 to great success and not just in box office sales (it’s actually a solid movie).
That may not be saying much, but Blumhouse has done great work for independent films since this franchise started by creating three effective sequels that successfully caused me to click on the nightlight for weeks.
Not much competition this fall for PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION, which will hit theaters nationwide on October 23. With another high box office tally, the franchise could continue in the future.
