New trailer for ‘GHOST IN THE SHELL’ is major

Director Rupert Sanders’ live action GHOST IN THE SHELL looks like the kick-ass heroine we could use right about now. Yes, it looks like AEON FLUX, THE MATRIX and UNDERWORLD had a baby together, but it also looks like a massively appealing property.

Scarlett Johansson stars as ‘The Major,’ a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

At the film’s Tokyo event, Sanders said he really wanted to translate the tone of the original Manga.

“It’s hard when you take something like an anime, or comic book, or Manga from the page into cinema. It’s a bumpy transition some of the time. But to me, it was strong source material to work with. It was really just a question of tone and attitude I was trying to maintain when you look at GHOST IN THE SHELL – casting, location. We designed the world from shoes up.”

GHOST IN THE SHELL opens on March 31, 2017.
