Shailene Woodley & Theo James Go Beyond The Wall In ‘THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT’ Trailer

Courtney Howard // Film Critic

THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT has debuted a sparkling new trailer, filled with epic awesomeness and lots of CGI. In this iteration, Tris (Shailene Woodley, sporting a sassy new ‘do) and Four (Theo James) go beyond the wall and find the unexpected: Jeff Daniels. Take a look below.

Here’s the official synopsis:

After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.

Though I went to bat on numerous occasions for the original film, the subsequent sequel was less than stellar (IMHO). Not only did they veer wildly from the source material (which can work out well, but didn’t at all here), it was chock full of heavy CGI and no genuine emotional stakes. The heroine could barely be the hero of her own movie. Anyways, let’s hope this next installment will right those wrongs.

If the producers are smart, they’ll utilize this “classic” as the theme song – which is all I can think about after watching the trailer:

THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT opens on March 18, 2016.
