Texas Film Awards 2015 Interviews: Patricia Arquette, Mike Judge & Others

Preston Barta & Cole Clay // Film Critics

Patricia Arquette, Guillermo del Toro, Robert Rodriguez and Richard Linklater were a few of the numerous actors and filmmakers who walked the red carpet in Austin last night for the 15th annual Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards.

The event honors the best in Texas film and raises funds for the year-round programs and services of the Austin Film Society. It also has grown into one of the most glamorous nights in Austin. Past honorees have included Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey, Billy Bob Thorton, Woody Harrelson and writer-director Terrence Malik among other Hollywood notables.

Fresh Fiction caught up with some of honorees and supporters along the red carpet at Stage 7 at Austin Studios last night. We talked briefly with Patricia Arquette (BOYHOOD), Mike Judge (KING OF THE HILL, OFFICE SPACE) and Danny Trejo (MACHETE) about the art of film and television.

Patricia Arquette on women in film and the book she’s writing on her life:

Mike Judge on SILICON VALLEY and film influences:

Danny Trejo on FROM DUSK TILL DAWN and MACHETE KILLS AGAIN… IN OUTER SPACE!:

You can also see our interviews last year with Danny McBride, Danny Trejo, Richard Linklater and Wilmer Valderrama.

Preston Barta

I have been working as a film journalist since 2010, dividing the first four years between radio broadcasting and entertainment writing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2014, I entered Fresh Fiction (FreshFiction.tv) as the features editor. The following year, I stepped into the film critic position at the Denton Record-Chronicle, a daily North Texas print publication. My time is dedicated to writing theatrical film reviews, at-home entertainment columns, and conducting interviews with on-screen talent and filmmakers, as well as hosting a podcast devoted to genre filmmaking (called My Bloody Podcast). I've been married for ten happy years, and I have one son who is all about dinosaurs just like his dad.
