Trailer & Poster: ‘THE BIG SHORT’ Won’t Short Us On Star Power Or Thrills

It’s the year 2015 and the housing crisis of 2007 is still showing signs of its devastating effects. Shady lenders, corrupt government practices and bad bank loans all made for a perfect storm for mass economic damage. Earlier this month, we saw 99 HOMES (my review here and Preston’s here) tell its tale about the impact it had on one fictional family. Now we’re seeing the book that inspired director Ramin Bahrani’s to make his film, from author Micheal Lewis and director Adam McKay comes THE BIG SHORT. Christian Bale, Steve Carell, (our forever boyfriend) Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt star in the drama that everyone will be talking about this award season.

Here’s the official synopsis:

When four outsiders saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea: The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything.

The film’s poster hit the webs today. Most shocking is the extreme lack of handsome manly faces gracing it. It’s a risky, bold move – one that I can behind. It’s clear this is an awards contender so why kowtow to the mainstream and go for the cheap grab?

THE BIG SHORT premieres at AFI Fest (which yours truly is covering) on November 12. It will be in theaters on December 11.
