[Video Interview] ‘SECRETS OF THE OCTOPUS’ highlights a beautiful connection between an explorer and an eight-legged underwater friend

Earth Day is a great time to celebrate our planet and all the fascinating creatures that call it home. If you’re looking for an exciting way to do just that, you might want to check out the documentary series Secrets of the Octopus. Available on Disney+ and Hulu, this beautifully told and captured work features narration from the beloved Paul Rudd.

Recently, Fresh Fiction had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Alex Schnell, a National Geographic explorer, Wayfinder Awardee, and science communicator, as well as Adam Geiger, the executive producer and underwater director of photography for the series.

In our conversation, we delved into the incredible intelligence, superpowers, and secret social lives of octopuses. It was truly a fascinating and eye-opening discussion, and we’re excited to share some highlights with you.

Preston Barta

I have been working as a film journalist since 2010, dividing the first four years between radio broadcasting and entertainment writing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2014, I entered Fresh Fiction (FreshFiction.tv) as the features editor. The following year, I stepped into the film critic position at the Denton Record-Chronicle, a daily North Texas print publication. My time is dedicated to writing theatrical film reviews, at-home entertainment columns, and conducting interviews with on-screen talent and filmmakers, as well as hosting a podcast devoted to genre filmmaking (called My Bloody Podcast). I've been married for ten happy years, and I have one son who is all about dinosaurs just like his dad.
