Walt Disney Animation Studios is releasing the Academy Award-nominated animated adventure, RALPH BREAK THE INTERNET on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Fresh Fiction has some digital copies to give away. Information on how to claim yours is below, along with information on the release.

The possibilities in a world as vast as the one in 2012’s WRECK-IT RALPH are endless. There are so many obvious directions to take the characters in and so many different video games brimming with nostalgia to pull from. However, filmmakers Phil Johnston and Rich Moore, who also worked together on ZOOTOPIA, avoid falling into the common pitfalls of sequel filmmaking by infusing their next chapter, RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET, with messages that speak volumes about the world we live in and how we live in it.

Disney Animation continues to push the boundaries of the family-friendly format by providing thrills and adventure for people of all ages to enjoy and underlying themes that have the force to open up one’s soul to new beginnings.

In RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET, Johnston and Moore follow up their redemptive story about its misunderstood titular character with a new one about growth. We find our duo of outcasts, Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman), living in their “happily ever after.” Ralph is content with the routine nature of his life (the repetitive pattern of his arcade game). However, Vanellope wants more adventure in her life. They obey the formulas of their games from sunup to sundown, and even grab a root beer every evening at the game across the arcade hall.

Vanellope’s wishes of new adventures come true, but in unexpected fashion. Ralph tries to surprise her one day by carving out a detour track for Vanellope. However, it causes the game’s console to break beyond repair. To make matters worse, the game is out of circulation. So finding a replacement part isn’t going to be easy.

When the arcade hall gets WiFi, hope for Vanellope’s game surfaces. In a desperate effort to save Vanellope’s home, the two buddies brave the immensity of the World Wide Web, cruising over to eBay and unknowingly overbidding on the replacement wheel. There are two routes to take to put out their situation’s fire: win the money by stealing the coveted car in the online game Slaughter Race (led by Gal Gadot’s Shank character) and later by making viral videos with Ralph as the face to earn the clicks.

Similar to the characters in the first FANTASTIC BEASTS movie, the main issue for the characters in RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET comes at their own hand. Personally, I find the idea of characters creating their own problems in movies to not be the strongest direction. However, the curves Johnston and Moore throw in the path of their characters more than makes up for the fact. There are many lessons to pick up along the way, with the chief one being your goals don’t have to be the same as your best friend’s.

To no surprise, RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET entertains and generates a lot of solid laughs. (The scene involving all the Disney princesses is every bit as hilarious and smart as you may have heard.) It’s a significant improvement upon the original film and connects parents and children with its perspective of online behavior. Log on.
