DIFF Interview: Blythe Danner & Director Brett Haley On ‘I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS’

Set to kick off the Dallas International Film Festival tonight is I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS, a bittersweet drama starring Blythe Danner and Sam Elliot, and directed by Brett Haley.

The story tells of a widow named Carol (an endearing Danner) who is forced to confront her fears about love, family, and death. After her routine is broken, Carol decides to start dating again, falling into relationships with two different men (Elliot and Martin Starr).

I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS received rave reviews from its premiere at Sundance earlier this year, and it’s exactly the kind of enjoyable entertainment to start DIFF on the right foot. It showcases felt performances and proves that even if things get bad in life, there’s always greatness in the world.

Fresh Fiction sat down with Blythe Danner (MEET THE PARENTS) and co-writer/director Brett Haley (THE NEW YEAR) to talk about their festival opener, the most they’ve felt out of their comfort zone, and how they handle the challenges that life throws at them.

I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS opens in theaters on May 15.

I have been working as a film journalist since 2010, dividing the first four years between radio broadcasting and entertainment writing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2014, I entered Fresh Fiction (FreshFiction.tv) as the features editor. The following year, I stepped into the film critic position at the Denton Record-Chronicle, a daily North Texas print publication.
