As you know,  “melancholy marriages” is a cinematic sub-genre that’s a favorite of mine. I love all of it; everything from SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE, to WAR OF THE ROSES, to EYES WIDE SHUT, to REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, to GONE GIRL. It’s my jam! That’s why I’m so excited to see Angelina Jolie Pitt’s take on it with BY THE SEA. That and it looks gorgeous – like a high end perfume ad.

The film tells the saga of a couple hitting a rocky patch in their marital bliss when they travel through 1970’s France. In this newest featurette below, Jolie-Pitt confesses, “‘You can absolutely madly love the same person you want to kill.” PREACH IT!

“What’s cookin’, good lookin’?” Um… THIS!

Astute viewers will have spotted the couple’s children in this. Maybe you also noticed this featurette is set to Merry Clayton’s cover of the Rolling Stone’s “Gimme Shelter,” a track she sang back up on originally – a track that’s a favorite of director Martin Scorsese.

BY THE SEA premieres at AFI Fest (which yours truly will be covering) on November 5. It opens officially on November 13.
