First Look At Alice Returning to Narnia in ‘ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS’

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS | May 27, 2016
Director: James Bobin
Cast: Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Sacha Baron Cohen

This week has seen a number of teases for Walt Disney Pictures’ followup to ALICE IN WONDERLAND titled ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS. Well, now the first trailer for next summer’s release is finally here, which you can watch below.

The sequel, of course, takes place in Wonderland (Underland, whatever) and not Narnia, but you can’t deny it definitely feels that way. This time we revisit Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories with an all-new tale that travels back to “Underland”… to travel back in time.

Returning from the original film are Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonhan Carter as the Red Queen and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. It also features everyone’s favorite high-fiver Sacha Baron Cohen as a new character called Time. His powers allow Alice to visit Underland’s characters at different times in their lives.

Traveling back in time is always a unique tool to get more character depth, but it’s also a tricky thing to pull off. Let’s hope Depp can pull a white rabbit out of his Mad Hatter hat.

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS opens on May 27, 2016.

I have been working as a film journalist since 2010, dividing the first four years between radio broadcasting and entertainment writing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2014, I entered Fresh Fiction (FreshFiction.tv) as the features editor. The following year, I stepped into the film critic position at the Denton Record-Chronicle, a daily North Texas print publication. My time is dedicated to writing theatrical film reviews, at-home entertainment columns, and conducting interviews with on-screen talent and filmmakers, as well as hosting a podcast devoted to genre filmmaking (called My Bloody Podcast). I've been married for ten happy years, and I have one son who is all about dinosaurs just like his dad.
