‘It Follows’ Teaser Trailer Will Fry Your Nerves (NSFW!)

Since Fantastic Fest we haven’t been able to control our flapping gums about IT FOLLOWS. It’s so good in fact, festival audiences saw through any hype and responded enthusiastically to the haunting film. It’s good enough that, even with the debut of other impressive horror films, such as last month’s nailbiter THE BABADOOK, IT FOLLOWS reign supreme and followed festival attendees (including us) long after exiting the cinema.

And now, Metropolitan Films has posted our first look in the form of a French-subtitled international trailer. You can enjoy it below in all its NSFW glory!

So, that trailer may have got under you skin a little bit, calling back to the eeriness of Stanley Kubrick’s THE SHINING, but it also may have left you with some questions. So, what’s it all about? Let our critic Cole Clay break it down for you.

David Robert Mitchell’s second film takes an entirely plausible occurrence such as an STD and instead of getting a few pesky bumps you get a supernatural entity calculating your every move. IT FOLLOWS plays a waiting game that most genre fare neglects to revel in, and while still relying on a few jump scares, it’s what you don’t see that is utterly terrifying.

If Mitchell stripped this disturbing piece of cinema of all its horror elements it would remain a compelling hangout film about the insignificance of days wasted in suburbia. Mitchell understands that the pockets of waiting are the most terrifying aspects of horror. In fact, these bored teens delight in the chance to get off the couch despite the bone-chilling circumstances.

IT FOLLOWS is a retroactive piece of filmmaking. Rather than winking at this fact, Mitchell respectfully tips his cap to the classics that preceded this fantastic little horror film.

RADiUS and The Weinstein Company acquired US rights to IT FOLLOWS at Cannes Film Festival, with an expected March 2015 release. It will next screen at Sundance in January.
