AUSTIN, TX — Carlota Pereda’s haunting film PIGGY held its regional premiere at Fantastic Fest last month. Now, the horror is available to anyone brave enough to catch it in theaters or press play on video-on-demand.

PIGGY drops us into one hot summer in Spain, where we meet Sara (Laura Galán), an outsider in her home and a constant target of bullying from three other girls in her community. However, one day, after a swim, she sees her tormentors kidnapped by a stranger in a van. Blood is all over the vehicle, and the vibe is one leather mask away from being TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Frozen on what to do, Sara chooses not to interfere to save her own skin.

But how will she move forward with this information? Will she cooperate with the police and help, or keep her head down? Or will the guilt lead her to take her own path?

Following the film’s screening at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Fresh Fiction had the opportunity to virtually sit down with Pereda to discuss her riveting work. In our video interview below, we talk about how her film zigs when you think it will zag, the audio/visual journey, and the talent’s support system when filming the more intense sequences.
