I don’t know about you but I flipped my sh*t when I first saw the genius that was director Adam Wingard’s YOU’RE NEXT. It’s a delightful twist on the final girl trope and the home invasion genre. His follow up feature, which reunited him with frequent collaborator Simon Barrett, THE GUEST, is a darkly humorous thriller featuring a super sexy/ dangerous Dan Stevens that hit all its marks. Wingard and Barrett’s third feature together, THE WOODS, looks like it’ll be an unrelenting horror film that’s scary as f**k. And this ain’t no THE FOREST and it’s not THE HAPPENING. Because of the filmmakers’ track record, me thinks this will offer up a twist on the genre.

Yes, this features the standard slowed-down music (here, a “haunting” version of The Police’s stalker anthem, “Every Breath You Take”). But I’d be willing to bet it’ll factor in brilliantly (unlike all the other films who do the same thing with their trailers).
THE WOODS opens on September 16.
