Trailer: All Hail the Zany Hijinks and Calamity In ‘HAIL, CAESAR!’

Courtney Howard// Film Critic

If there’s one thing Joel and Ethan Coen do best, it’s tell a good “yarn.” Their tales range from the super seriousness of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and TRUE GRIT, to the zany calamity of OH BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? and THE BIG LEBOWSKI. They’ve also dealt with more than their fair share of stinkers like INTOLERABLE CRUELTY and THE LADYKILLERS. HAIL, CAESAR! is the brothers’ latest to blend hijinks and hilarity together into something incredibly palatable.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Four-time Oscar®-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, True Grit, Fargo) write and direct Hail, Caesar!, an all-star comedy set during the latter years of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Channing Tatum, Hail, Caesar! follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix.

Star Josh Brolin seems to be having quite the “Brolin-ssance” with his career, having co-starred in two great films that both opened September 18 – SICARIO and EVEREST. While we’ll have to wait until 2016 to see Brolin lead, we can catch the Coens’ writing stylings in BRIDGE OF SPIES.

HAIL, CAESAR opens on February 5, 2016.
