Tuesday Night TV Smackdown, 10/28

Preston Barta // Critic

Another day, another smackdown. What should you watch, and does it line up with what we’re watching?

8 PM

THE FLASH (CW)

Going Rogue” – The Flash stops a robbery but the culprits get away after shooting a guard, and The Flash chooses to save the man instead of following the criminals. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) shows Barry (Grant Gustin) a book of suspects and Barry identifies Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller) as the leader of the group. Snart revises his plan to steal the Kahndaq Dynasty Diamond and gets a boost when he gets his hands on a stolen “cold gun,” which could kill The Flash. Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh) is furious when he finds out that Cisco (Carlos Valdes) built the cold gun without telling anyone and now it’s missing. Meanwhile, Iris is getting the silent treatment from Joe because of her relationship with Eddie (Rick Cosnett). Finally, The Flash and Captain Cold have an epic confrontation.

VS

THE VOICE (NBC)

The Knockouts Premiere, Part 2” – The knock out phase of the competition continues.

Winner: I know that last week we said THE VOICE is nothing more than background music, but I think it’s where you will find the most entertainment at the 8 o’clock hour. However, still record THE FLASH. While it packs the cheese, the effects and chemistry is worth recording.

Also airing: NCIS (CBS), FINDING YOUR ROOTS (PBS), PRETTY LITTLE LIARS (ABC Family), and MANHATTAN LOVE STORY (ABC) at 8:30 p.m.

9PM – Double Trouble

MARRY ME (NBC)

Scary Me” (9 p.m.) – Jake (Ken Marino) and Annie (Casey Wilson) get a haunted house ready for the children in their building but run into trouble with one of the mothers. Dennah (Sarah Wright) decides to wear a skimpy costume to an exclusive party.

ABOUT A BOY (NBC)

About a House for Sale” (9:30 p.m.) – Despite not liking Halloween, Fiona (Minnie Driver) attends Will’s annual party. Will (David Walton) attempts to show Marcus (Benjamin Stockham) the joys of Halloween.

VS

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D (ABC)

A Fractured House” – The world turns against S.H.I.E.L.D. when Hydra impersonates them to attack The United Nations, and an unexpected enemy leads the charge to bring about their downfall.

Winner: Everything that doesn’t really have a story arc is all about Halloween, and those episodes can be fun. Wait until tomorrow’s MODERN FAMILY, but tonight, again, AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. is the way to go. Expect big some big things to go down tonight!

Honorable Mentions: SUPERNATURAL (CW)

Also airing: 19 KIDS AND COUNTING (TLC), FACEOFF (Syfy), NCIS: NEW ORLEANS (CBS), LEGENDS (TNT),

10 PM

SONS OF ANARCHY (FX)

The Separation of Crows” – When the search for a missing member comes to a dead end, the club turns its attention to weeding out a rat.

VS

Nothing. It’s SONS Tuesday. Although this week’s episode spins its wheels a bit and is one of the weaker episodes of the season, it still showcases some intensity. Some peeps get shot, and some limbs are lost. Keep it on FX.

Also airing: CHICAGO FIRE (NBC), PERSON OF INTEREST (CBS), FOREVER (ABC), and TOSH.0 (Comedy Central)

*all times are ET

I have been working as a film journalist since 2010, dividing the first four years between radio broadcasting and entertainment writing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2014, I entered Fresh Fiction (FreshFiction.tv) as the features editor. The following year, I stepped into the film critic position at the Denton Record-Chronicle, a daily North Texas print publication. My time is dedicated to writing theatrical film reviews, at-home entertainment columns, and conducting interviews with on-screen talent and filmmakers, as well as hosting a podcast devoted to genre filmmaking (called My Bloody Podcast). I've been married for ten happy years, and I have one son who is all about dinosaurs just like his dad.
