TV Review: Tonight’s ‘MAN SEEKING WOMAN’ – “Pitbull”

MAN SEEKING WOMAN is an electro shock therapy experience into the terrible, horrible, no good, world of single life in the big city. With only three episodes, Simon Rich has created a rich canvas of staunch characters, especially the uber-committed lead, Josh (Jay Baruchel).

So far he has had confrontations with his ex’s current boyfriend (Adolf Hitler), gone on a date with a troll (literally), and I believe exorcised the memory of an ex gal pal from his apartment.

In only two episodes it’s been established that Josh is a nothing more than a dreamer, a hopeless romantic who has been the constant victim of unrequited love. Tonight’s episode titled “Pitbull,” Josh rushes home to… you know, I’m trying to put this delicately, get some “alone” time. Instead, his right hand (voiced by Sarah Silverman) calls an audible and breaks up with him, claiming the monotony is growing stale and that she wants to explore the world and learn sign language.

The show has yet to fully find an audience, but going on this acid-trip the past few weeks has provided some great moments. Although it’s not perfect, MAN SEEKING WOMAN has something special. Keep in mind it took the now FXX staple LOUIE to find its audience as well.

Note: Also, a good rule of thumb if you’re going to run a Google search for MAN SEEKING WOMAN, make sure to put “FXX” afterwards, otherwise you may stumble upon a creepy guy looking to watch women eat fruit in bed.
