DIRTY GRANDPA follows a recent widower (Robert De Niro) who convinces his straitlaced lawyer grandson (Zac Efron) to accompany him on a road trip to Florida. It’s a tradition he shared with his dearly departed — going on this very trip every year — and he’s not going to let something as little as her death stop him from having a good time.

From there, the story sees the duo getting into all sorts of debauchery, including but not limited to drinking, drugging and partying themselves crazy.

Fresh Fiction had the opportunity to speak with one of the film’s stars, Adam Pally (HAPPY ENDINGS, THE MINDY PROJECT), who plays the family’s Cousin Nick. We talked about being out of our comfort zone, reference-filled comedies, and we even got a few impressions of De Niro.

DIRTY GRANDPA opens tomorrow.

I have been working as a film journalist since 2010, dividing the first four years between radio broadcasting and entertainment writing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2014, I entered Fresh Fiction (FreshFiction.tv) as the features editor. The following year, I stepped into the film critic position at the Denton Record-Chronicle, a daily North Texas print publication. My time is dedicated to writing theatrical film reviews, at-home entertainment columns, and conducting interviews with on-screen talent and filmmakers, as well as hosting a podcast devoted to genre filmmaking (called My Bloody Podcast). I've been married for ten happy years, and I have one son who is all about dinosaurs just like his dad.
