Video Interview: John Magaro On The Importance of Viewing ‘THE BIG SHORT’

Preston Barta // Editor

While it may seem a little bizarre that a film so fresh as this would be considered such an important film, THE BIG SHORT more than earns its laurels. It’s a high-energy and brutally honest study of the financial world. With its narration, off-the-wall style and strong performances, the film stores in your brain and clicks the save button.

Fresh Fiction recently sat down with John Magaro (NOT FADE AWAY, upcoming THE FINEST HOURS), who portrays Charlie Geller in the film. We spoke about the quotes used to frame the film’s chapters, the importance of the film and how it should be shared.

THE BIG SHORT is now playing in limited release, and opens in Dallas-Ft. Worth on Wednesday, December 23.

I have been working as a film journalist since 2010, dividing the first four years between radio broadcasting and entertainment writing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2014, I entered Fresh Fiction (FreshFiction.tv) as the features editor. The following year, I stepped into the film critic position at the Denton Record-Chronicle, a daily North Texas print publication. My time is dedicated to writing theatrical film reviews, at-home entertainment columns, and conducting interviews with on-screen talent and filmmakers, as well as hosting a podcast devoted to genre filmmaking (called My Bloody Podcast). I've been married for ten happy years, and I have one son who is all about dinosaurs just like his dad.
