There have been plenty of rumors circulating over the past few months as to who would sing the theme for the 24th James Bond installment, SPECTRE. It was even teased yesterday on Instagram. However, now it has been confirmed that Sam Smith will perform the theme, titled “Writing’s on the Wall.” The track will be made available through Capitol Records to purchase and stream later this month (September 25).
The previous theme song from SKYFALL was performed by Adele and it went on to receive an Academy Award for “Best Original Song” as well as the Grammy for “Best Song Written for Visual Media.” With Smith’s talents, he could be just as well off.
Official Press Release Quotes:
“[Smith] and [Jimmy Napes] have written the most inspirational song for SPECTRE and with [Smith’s] extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all-time,” said SPECTRE producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
While Smith added, “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”
SPECTRE will hit theaters on November 6.
