In 'SUNNY,' Rashida Jones portrays a grieving woman navigating through her sorrow as she unexpectedly encounters a new companion. Delve into the intricacies of this thought-provoking sci-fi series and watch our video interview with the cast.

In the new series Sunny, Rashida Jones plays Suzie, an American expatriate residing in Kyoto, Japan. The story follows Suzie’s harrowing experience when her husband (Drive My Car‘s Hidetoshi Nishijima) and their son go missing in a mysterious plane crash, leaving her to grapple with intense feelings of isolation and loss.

To alleviate her distress, Suzie is given a cutting-edge domestic robot named Sunny (voiced by Joanna Sotomura), which was created by her husband’s electronics company. Despite Suzie’s initial reluctance, she and Sunny form an unlikely bond, embarking on a journey to uncover the truth behind her family’s disappearance and becoming entangled in a previously undiscovered world.

Fresh Fiction virtually sat down with Jones and Nishijima, exploring how they portrayed their characters’ emotions of solitude and drawing inspiration from their character’s dialogue.
