This week’s happenings include:

FILM

  • ALIEN: ROMULUS (0:00-28:48) – ALIEN: ROMULUS impresses with its mood, production design, and cinematography. It may feel like a greatest hits compilation, but it does have some standout moments of intense horror thrill and a commendably bonkers final act. It’s a solid entry, but one wishes it was a meaner and more straightforward space slaughterhouse. Now playing in theaters and IMAX theaters nationwide. • Quick Mentions: SING SING and SKINCARE (28:48-29:52) – Both films are now playing in select theaters across nation.

  • OCEANXPLORERS (29:52-32:49) – This wonderfully insightful documentary series unites the brightest minds to seek answers about life underwater and its magnificent inhabitants. Feel your heart swell and your brain expand. The six-part series premieres on National Geographic on Aug. 18 and streams on Disney+ and Hulu the following day.
  • BAD MONKEY (32:49-33:48) – With outrageous situations and sharp dialogue, BAD MONKEY is an absolute blast. Vince Vaughn has never been funnier. The first two episodes are now streaming on Apple TV+, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through Oct. 9.
