FILM
- Mentions: THE CROW and BLINK TWICE (05:13-19:36) – Both films are now playing in theaters across nation.
- GREEDY PEOPLE (19:36-25:03) – In classic Coen brothers fashion, GREEDY PEOPLE brings together a group of individuals who find themselves in over their heads, leading to a bloodbath. This dark comedy is both hilarious and intense, with moments that go to unexpected and memorable places. Joseph Gordon-Levitt delivers a comically stellar performance. Now playing in select theaters and available to stream on-demand.
TV
- THAT ’90S SHOW: PART 3 (25:03-28:50) – After a series of missteps with its characters and humor, THAT ’90S SHOW returns for its third go with more genuine laughs and heart. Perhaps, Lauren Prepon’s direction throughout the entire season had something to do with it. (Note: The podcast review contains thoughts on the first episode. However, this written review contains thoughts about all eight episodes. The next podcast will feature a continued discussion.)
- CHIMP CRAZY (28:50-31:18) – Fan of TIGER KING? Try this new HBO doc series on for size! In CHIMP CRAZY, Tonia Haddix, a former nurse who now works as an exotic animal broker, dedicates her time to caring for captive animals and has been nicknamed the “Dolly Parton of chimps” due to her deep affection for a chimpanzee. However, her strong bond with a chimp leads to a tense conflict with authorities and an animal rights organization. The first four episodes are now available to stream on Max.
- PANCHINKO: SEASON 2 (31:18-31:50) – Based on the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller by Min Jin Lee, Apple TV+’s award-winning drama series, Pachinko, returns for its second season. The narrative begins with a story of forbidden love and unfolds into a sweeping tale that spans across Korea, Japan, and America, depicting a remarkable account of war, peace, love, heartbreak, victory, and reflection. The first episode is now streaming on Apple TV+, followed by new episodes every Friday through Oct. 11.
