Nathan Lane and Amy Ryan’s careers have each reached stratospheric heights. These affable actors’ have a multitude of critically acclaimed performances under their belts, both on stage and on the Silver Screen. And it’s time to add another as they share indelible screen-time together in Ari Aster’s BEAU IS AFRAID.

In the anxiety-laced horror/ pitch-black comedy, they play Roger and Grace, a suburban married couple whose paths literally collide with the titular hero (Joaquin Phoenix) when they accidentally run him over with their car. They take him in, have him sleep in their tempestuous teen daughter’s (Kylie Roger) bedroom and treat him as their surrogate son while he’s healing from deep wounds. They’re also hiding a dark secret from Beau – one that informs his quest to return home for his mother’s funeral.

At the recent press day, we spoke with the pair about what it’s like working together, performing in an Ari Aster movie, and the insights they gleaned from their characters.

BEAU IS AFRAID is now playing everywhere.
