Romcom tomfoolery is pretty patented by now. We’ve seen it all and know the formula by heart. MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES seems formulaic but fun. Maybe it’s because the cast – including Zac Efron, Adam Devine, Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza – really sell the sh*t out of it.
The setup here is that terminal screwed-up siblings Mike and Dave Stangle need to get their lives back on track. In order to do so, their father dictates they must find dates for their sister’s wedding. Now, already it’s a head-scratcher that anyone in the Stangle family would want two troublemakers at such a civilized affair – but this is a romcom we’re talking about and logic need not apply. Anyways, the brothers meet their equally crazy and raunchy matches in Alice (Kendrick) and Tatiana (Plaza).
Since the studio put it in prime Summertime scheduling, I can’t help but hope that this rowdy and raucous romcom will capture my heart.
MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES opens on July 8.
