This week’s happenings include:

FILM

  • KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES (15:30-24:37) – KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES continues to ignite the series with grounded effects that reign supreme even if, thematically, we’ve been here before. (You can also read Courtney Howard’s review here.) Now playing in theaters nationwide.
  • I SAW THE TV GLOW (24:37-31:32) – I SAW THE TV GLOW visually and sonically delve into deep thoughts about the transgender experience, going through life on autopilot and finding solace in art when the world fails to offer it. However, due to its abstract nature, it’s challenging to connect with a film about wanting to connect. Now playing in theaters.
  • THE DRY and FORCE OF NATURE: THE DRY 2 (31:22-37:26) – FORCE OF NATURE brings back Eric Bana’s excellent Aaron Falk character for another thought-provoking and thrilling mystery. Rather than be a rinse-and-repeat of THE DRY, director Robert Connolly and Co. back the characters in new corners to uncover more about the hand-in-glove connection between the past and present. (Interviews coming soon!) Now playing in select theaters.
  • THE LAST STOP IN YUMA COUNTY (42:11-50:37) – THE LAST STOP IN YUMA COUNTY is an excellent Southern-fried ensemble that brilliantly balances suspense, humor, and morality. (You can also read Preston Barta’s review out of Fantastic Fest here.) Now playing in select theaters and available on video-on-demand.

INTERVIEWS

  • THE LAST STOP IN YUMA COUNTY director Francis Galluppi (54:14-1:08:03). Or, you can watch the video interview here via Fresh Fiction’s YouTube channel.)
